India marks the 100-th year since the release of
the country’s first feature film. Most people around the
world relate Indian cinema only to Bollywood dances
and songs. Hindi mainstream cinema with all its colour
has been widely acknowledged.
The motion picture travelled to India as soon as
it was born. And though there is some debate over
which was the first Indian full-length feature film, the
honour is usually conferred on the silent film Raja
Harishchandra by Dadasaheb Phalke. Its release led to Филмът Три идиота пожъна
the birth of the Indian film industry. In 1931 India’s first широк международен успех
talkie in Hindi was released and it was quickly followed
by films in Telugu and Tamil.
The influence of Indian cinema on the masses is
so powerful that Indian movie stars have often made
political careers. As it is often said, there are two state
religions in India: films and cricket.
