Vice-President of India

On 25 July 2022 Droupadi Murmu was sworn in
as the 15th President of the Republic of India. She is
the first person from India’s indigenous designated
tribal communities to be elected President as well as
is the youngest one. Born in a Santhali tribal family
in Odisha, she became the first woman from her vil-
lage to receive college education. From 2015 to 2021
Murmu was Governor of Jharkhand. She was also
a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Odisha
(2000-2009), and served in the Government of Odi- Bengal (2019-2022), and also served as a Member
sha as Minister of State for Commerce and Trans- of Lok Sabha (1989-91), Union Deputy Minister
port (2002) and as Minister of State for Fisheries for Parliamentary Affairs (1990), and Member
and Animal Resources Development (2002-2004). of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly (1993-1998).
Since 11 August 2022 Vice-President of India Dhankhar was the senior-most designated Senior
and ex officio Chairman of Rajya Sabha is Jagdeep Advocate of the state of Rajasthan till assuming the
Dhankhar. Previously, he was Governor of West Office of the Governor of West Bengal.
