                                                     of Maharajas

                                                        Situated in the northwest of the country,
                                                     Rajasthan is the largest by territory state of the
                                                     Republic of India. It encompasses most of the
                                                     territory of the Thar desert and also one of the
                                                     world’s oldest mountain ranges, the Aravali,
                                                     which cradles Mount Abu, the only hill station
                                                     in Rajasthan, famous for the Dilwara temples,
                                                     a sacred piligrimage site for Jains. The capital
                                                     of the state – Jaipur – was founded in 1727 and
                                                     at that time was one of the most well-ordered
                                                     cities not only in India. The so called Pink city
                                                     has a lot to offer with its large number of palaces,
                                                     forts , temples and colorful markets. Rajasthan
                                                     is home of the so called „Venice of the East“ -
                                                     the city of Udaipur, also known as „The City of
                                                     Lakes“. The “blue“ city Jodhpur, the ancient Ajmer
                                                     and Pushkar and “sand“ city Jaisalmer can only
                                                     confirm the idea of colour and variety of the state.
                                                     Rajasthan hosts also the Keoladeo National Park -
                                                     a bird sanctuary, which is a World Heritage Site, as
                                                     well as two tiger reserves – those of Ranthambore
                                                     and Sariska. Its well-preserved and abundant
                                                     heritage in folk music, the ghoomar dance of
                                                     Udaipur, the kalbeliya dance of Jaisalmer, the blue
                                                     pottery, the colorful and detailed embroidery and
                                                     the wooden puppets are just a small part of the
                                                     gifts this traditionally rich state can offer.
