World Hindi Day was celebrated on March
25th in cooperation with the Indology Department
of Sofia University, Friends of India Club and the
East-West Indological Foundation with a 2-hour
programme at the Aula Hall of the University of
Sofia which began with speeches by the Dean of
the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology and
the Head of Chancery of the Indian Embassy and
included Bharatnatyam and Bollywood dances,
performances by Indology students, small skits
in Hindi and sharing of experiences by former
students at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra.
The ITEC Day Reception hosted by
Ambassador Manchanda on March 27th was
attended by about 100 people including ITEC
alumni, Chairman of Bulgarian Audit Office,
Indology professors and students.
On April 10th a ceremony in connection with
release of a book “Taj Mahal – the First in the
Palace” by Stanka Zanova was held in the Sofia
City Library and was attended by the Head of
Chancery of the Indian Embassy.
The Indian Embassy in Sofia participated in
the 10th jubilee edition of International Tourist
Exhibition “Cultural Tourism“ held on 18 – 20
April in Veliko Turnovo.
On May 30th at The House of Cinema in
Sofia Ambassador Manchanda inaugurated the
second edition of the “Namaste Bulgaria” Indian
Film Festival, organized by Namaste Bulgaria
Foundation with the support of the Embassy of
India in Sofia and marking 100th anniversary of
Bollywood.
