Nandalal Bose (1882-1966) who is among
India’s most important modern artists, left a
major imprint on Indian art. He studied at
Calcutta’s School of Art under Abanindranath
Tagore. In 1922 became the Principal of the Kala
Bhawan at Shantiniketan. Bose created the iconic
image of Gandhi setting forth on his Dandi
March in 1930 and the ‘Haripura Posters’ to be
displayed during the Indian National Congress
session in 1938. He was invited to design the
decoration of the calligraphic editions of the
Constitution of the Republic of India – the
original artwork done by Bose and the team of
artists gathered by him reflects India’s historical
